Learn Spanish

Going to Benidorm for a holiday? consider carrying a pocket size Spanish Language translation book. Believe me it will make life a lot easier for you as the tourist for fear that you may stumble across a Spaniard that does not speak English.

Mind you the chances of that are very slim, I have yet to meet one that does not speak several languages like French German Dutch etc.

The reason I mention a Spanish translation book is because no matter how well their spoken English, you have to remember in Spain they were taught Spanish so no doubt they will understand their own lingo before yours.

To top it all if you are anything like my self you end up trying to speak with a Spanish accent when ordering a meal or asking for directions or even on a day out shopping.

Looking back now at what I did say and do to the locals of Spain to have them understand makes me shudder with embarrassment. When I think back to how foolish I must have looked at the time, does not bear thinking about. Hey, come on I think we all have done it.

Any way enough of that I am going to give you some important Spanish phrases that I think you will find useful to have on your personal through out your holiday period.

I am no Spanish language expert but I know enough to get by on, of which I would like to share with you. A good phrase book should be one of your top priorities when travelling abroad. Educate yourself while at the same time having fun learning the meanings behind the Spanish language.

For Yes we have Si and for the opposite No well that stays the same as to what we are accustomed, pronounced a little different maybe, but still the same.

Gracias (Thank you) A thank you goes a long way and a lovely polite gesture to use through out your holiday, no doubt this will be projected back to you from the friendly Spanish people.

Por favour (Please) Buenos dias (Good morning) Como te llamas (What’s your name) Should you be fortunate enough to meet some one that you have become attracted to. Well this is a good phrase to have handy to start the ball rolling, or, should the boot be on the other foot you will not make a fool of your self by asking them to repeat what was said because you will already know.

Me llamo (My name is) remember this one for your reply, like I said that is if you strike lucky.

Que tal / como estes (How are you) Buenas tardes (Good afternoon) Buenas noches (Good evening /night)

Finding Benidorm Beaches could not be simpler(Donde este la playa) Where is the beach.

And what lovely clean safe beaches they are, with golden sands and a palm tree lined promenade with beachfront restaurants and cafe’s in abundance.

Last but not least Cerveza (Beer) well you are on holiday, so enjoy self.

I think you may have enough to be going on with. So go on be a devil and get booking your holiday and start to learn how to roll your R’s like the Spaniards. The Spanish love to do this when they speak and I would imagine they love to hear others doing it too. Whether you can speak Spanish or not? A smile has no language barrier, a smile tells everyone around you that you are one happy person and why wouldn’t you be? You’re in Benidorm. Remember a smile speaks a thousands words!
